Charley Fouquet, author of the book “Les Recettes des contes de Fées,” sent us the recipe for The Scones of “Alice in Wonderland.”
THE FAIRY TALE :
“Under a tree in front of the house, there was a table where the March Hare and the Mad Hatter were having tea; a dormouse that was fast asleep sat between them, and the other two supported their elbows on him like a cushion and talked over his head. “It is inconvenient for the dormouse,” thought Alice, “but as he is asleep, I guess he must not mind.”
What the story does not say is that walking through the forest after leaving “the crazies ‘’ with an empty stomach, Alice heard a centenary tree that was snoring loudly. She approached and saw scones with jam hidden beneath its roots. She lifted one delicately and took some for the long road ahead.
THE SCONES :
1 packet of baking powder
1 pinch of salt
FOR THE GLAZING
1 egg yolk
10 ml of milk
- Preheat oven to 180 ° C.
- In a bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, sugar and softened butter by hand. Add salt and milk and work through until it becomes a soft dough. If the dough is too sticky , add a little flour .
- Made a big ball and roll out the dough on a work surface sprinkled with flour. Flatten it so it is about 2 cm high. Cut disks from the dough of about 6cm in diameter with a cutter. Mix the egg yolk and milk in a bowl and brush the tops of the scones with a brush so they glaze when cooking.
- On a baking sheet, place baking paper, set the scones and bake for 10 minutes.
